Autre Que Pur Sang

Intro

the Autre Que Pur Sang loosely translates to Other-Than Pure Blood and is a classification used for race horses in France that are not of pure English Thoroughbred lineage.

Origins

The AQPS is an exclusive category of racing, horses must have 75% English Thoroughbred and (if I’m reading the translation correctly) less than 5% Arab blood to participate. The rest of the bloodlines can be a mix of regional local saddle horses.
These animals are run both on flat tracks and in steeplechase races. This mix is not as swift as the English Thoroughbred, although prove to be sturdier and to possess more endurance. They often excel in obstacle races and longer distances against an open field.
This classification does not exist for hunter, jumpers or eventing, it is limited to the race track.

Austrian Warmblood

Austrian Warmblood6

Intro

The Austrian Warmblood comes from Austria in an area that has long been known for creating find horseflesh (including the Kladruber & the Lipizzaner).

Origins

The foundation of the breed are the NoniusFuriosoArabian which created the native mare base in Austria (the Old Austria horse breeds) which were then crossed with Thoroughbred & more Arabian blood to further refine the breed in the mid 19th century.
Like many breeds of the area the end of the second World War & the rise of mechanization decimated their numbers. In 1964 an association was founded for breeding warmbloods in Austria in an attempt to retain & promote this breed.
