Azerbaijan Horse

Intro




Also called Kazakh and Deliboz horse, the Azerbaijan is a saddle horse that comes from regions of Azerbaijan and parts of Georgia and Armenia.



Origins

Developed as a saddle-pack animal and this breed was favored as a war horse. The Azerbaijan stock has been enhanced with both Arabian and Tersk blood. This breed is known for an unstable temperament and their pacing gait.

Features

Average height 13.1 – 14 hands
Healthy with a long life span
Natural sense of balance
Can be a natural pacer
Can have a lengthwise fold in their tongue which gives the impression of a forked tongue

Physique

Head is wedge shaped with large, expressive eyes
Neck is high-set, muscular and medium in length
Chest is wide and well-developed
Back is short, straight and wide
Legs are very long and strong with good hooves
Mane and tail are sparse

A common breed in Italy, the Avelignese is a coldblood breed found all throughout the country but concentrated in Tuscany and central southern parts of the country.

Average height 13.3 – 14 hands
Hardy and surefooted
Capable of carrying & pulling great weight

Head shows Arabian influence
Body is robust and muscular
Short, strong legs
Hooves are very hard

Always golden chestnut with flaxen gene

Temperament

Kind and thoughtful, they make great mounts for children and beginners
